Pop down to pop_up

6 Feb

Thursday night at the Barrelhouse was full to bursting with creative talk, interesting visuals and cool beats pumping from the speakers. I met many creative folk, some who I’d already spoken to on Twitter and others who I’d never met.

@_deface_  and @careymarks

@_deface_ and @careymarks

@abimckenzie @remode

Top topics of conversation:

  • Twitter and how it has changed lives, including allowing new people to Devon to meet other creative people
  • Hearing about how local artist Kate Marshall’s paintings will soon be touring internationally as part of ‘400 Women – Group show at Shoreditch Town Hall’
  • Men having a ‘moment’ over spot UV
  • Plymouth’s charity fund raising event the twestival, which uses twitter to organise actual events to raise money
  • That pop_up gives everyone a chance to show their own work and joy at seeing their designs and art blown up on the wall
  • Remode showing us the games they’ve been developing and being impressed that they’re pitching to some big American companies next week in San Francisco
  • Talking about street art, was Banksy’s ‘Exit through the Gift Shop’ film a fake?

My most memorable moment:

It’s a toss up over @samajose being attacked by a GIANT spider and being saved by @Scarletdesign OR meeting the artist @abimckenzie who I’ll be working with on an illustration project, seeing the ideas I’ve had starting to bud into reality.

The next pop_up will be on Thursday 3 March at 6.30pm, so if you’re in or near Totnes, pop down to pop_up, where you can meet up with other creatives and social media users. Get in touch with @phillirose if you want any more information (phillippa@redfront.co.uk)
