Submerged

31 Aug

Underwater, Spacex, 17 July – 11 September 2010 (free)

Ed Pien

Ten international artists are brought together by Angela Kingston under one theme; Underwater. There is a mixture of media: painting, film, sound, sculpture, drawing and photography. You really feel there was no agenda with the exhibition; it is about putting together interesting works about the Underwater.

I thoroughly enjoyed exploring this mysterious world through the eyes and imaginations of these artists. See the fantastical swancobra by Seung Hyun Woo, which looks as though it has been captured in a moment of movement, hear a fish ‘bark’ at you, witness a pre-Raphaelitian self-portrait of an artist as she slowly sways back and forth, just beneath the surface of a murky, weedy, dirty pool of water.
